Q&A with Candice Homewood 150 150 Greengage Environmental

Candice joined the Greengage team earlier this year to undertake sustainability appraisals, socio-
economic assessments and project manage Environmental Impact Assessments.

How did you get involved in the environmental sector?

I’ve always been interested in the physical and built environment; I feel that there is massive scope and opportunities to work in a changing and dynamic sector and make a real difference. So I opted to undertake my Masters degree in Environmental Systems Engineering at UCL, where I focused on sustainable urban water systems. My dissertation was entitled ‘Achieving sustainable urban water systems; identifying pathways and obstacles in implementing sustainable water system using a systems thinking approach.’

What made you join Greengage?

The opportunities the position presented to me. I have a background in energy (e.g. working on the TSB funded ‘Retrofit for the Future’, which gave individual project teams the opportunity to retrofit properties with the aim of reducing energy consumption by up 80% in line with government targets) during my time at the Energy Saving Trust.

How have you found your time at Greengage?

I’ve been involved in a wide range of projects from the outset, from sustainability assessments through to Environmental Impact Assessments. It has been a challenging and rewarding experience and I am learning a lot working with colleagues, professional teams and clients. It’s a really good working environment; very team-orientated and everyone has been very welcoming.

What sort of projects have you been involved in?

I have lead responsibility for developing the domestic sector within the company, undertaking BREEAM/CSH assessments, sustainability appraisals and environmental assessments. I am also leading on socio-economic assessments, which are either a part of, or independent to Environmental Impact Assessments. Projects include the Huntsman, a 130 unit residential development, which forms part of the wider Kidbrooke Development Area in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Having recently spent two years travelling around South East Asia and Australia, I enjoy travelling and hot weather! I also enjoy playing the piano and cooking.
