Greengage would like to congratulate Whitbread and the St Martins Lane hub team for achieving a BREEAM Final Post Construction Score of 90.5% and rating of Outstanding.
In 2014, the hub by Premier Inn became the first hotel in the UK to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ BREEAM rating at Interim Design Stage – with a score of 86.7%, and now the same development has smashed its own record by exceeding 90% at Post Construction.
The increase in the scoring wasn’t a surprise to the team;
“The project was always targeting 90.5%,” confirms Ruth Geeson (Associate Partner, Greengage) “but as we’re comfortably over the ‘Outstanding’ threshold, we decided to not to pursue some of the credits at the Interim Design Stage (certified in 2014), in order to complete the first round of certification at the agreed programme milestone.”
“On behalf of Greengage, I’d like to thank Whitbread for their complete commitment to the exceptionally high sustainability targets which were set on this project. Also the teams from Axiom Architects (Architect), McAleer & Rushe (Principal Contractor), Applied Energy (Building Services), Tower 8 (Project Manager), for engaging with and delivering this BREEAM Outstanding rating.”
The St Martins Lane hub was also recognised at the Green Hotelier 2015 Awards this week;

“A special mention goes to: The Hub by Premier Inn, UK.
The Hub by Premier Inn at Covent Garden has only recently opened, making it difficult to compare sustainability impacts with other operational hotels, but deserves recognition for the impressive lengths they went to ensuring minimum environmental impact during the development of the building, leading them to a BREEAM Outstanding rating at design stage – a UK first.”- Green Hotelier of 2015, Europe
