On the 16th and 17th of October 2017 Greengage Associates Chris Burgess and Rob Miller attended the Healthy City Design 2017 International Congress at the Royal College of Physicians, London, where they presented a poster on ‘Quantification of health benefits through urban masterplanning design of public realm’.
The poster summarised the work Greengage had undertaken on a development site using the Sport England MOVES Tool to quantify the health benefits of the sporting programmes brought forward through the proposed development. Associated cost savings to the NHS were then calculated. It also set out how the application of such an approach can be tested on major schemes in the future, by gathering data about the effectiveness of design interventions.
The abstract and a copy of the poster is now available online and can be accessed by clicking here:
The event comprised a range of presentations and posters on new research, innovative practice and progressive policy ideas on how to design economically and ecologically sustainable cities that enhance the user’s health and wellbeing. The two-day event covered topics on:
The evidence base for healthy city design and urban planning;
- How healthy cities can be designed;
- Integration of health and wellness with ecology;
- Digital and Smarter cities;
- Tools for active design;
- Active travel;
- Creating engaging cities.
