Ajjay Dhesi, one of Greengage’s sustainability consultants, has recently completed his training to become a Fitwel Ambassador, joining over 1,500 ambassadors worldwide across over 50 countries.
Fitwel aims to bring health and wellbeing to the forefront of the built environment, to create safe and healthy spaces which encourage activity and positive health behaviours for the occupants. Fitwel acts as an assessment criteria across a broad range of health issues, including community health, healthy food, social equity and safety. Those buildings which tackle a multitude of strategies, creating a strong universal health directed improvement to the building achieve more points and subsequently a better certification.
Fitwel allows certification of buildings from those in early design stage through to those which are already constructed. Additionally, where other assessment methods such as BREEAM contain prerequisites and minimum standards, Fitwel does not, offering wide flexibility allowing individual buildings to achieve their certification through the strategies which are best suited to the type of building and situation.
