The Howard de Walden Estate

Greengage have been appointed to assist The Howard de Walden Estate with capturing their Carbon and ESG data across their estate, covering 92 acres of Marylebone, Central London.

The Howard de Walden Estate covers residential, office, retail, medical and educational building types. They have committed to being a net zero carbon business by 2040 and achieving a 50% reduction in operational energy use by 2030 on a 2018 baseline.

Greengage’s appointment is to provide visibility across scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions for Howard de Walden’s operational activities and their estate. In addition, establishing an energy monitoring programme for the top 10 consuming buildings.

Since appointment, Greengage have been working closely with Howard de Walden, to identify data and information sources as well as set up the database and dashboard platform using Microsoft Azure & Power BI.

The initial focus has been to capture scope 1 and 2 emissions related to building energy consumption. Water and waste data has been the initial focus for scope 3 emissions.

With the initial data set captured into Azure and Power BI, we are now working with Howard de Walden to capture and improve visibility of scope 3 emissions across their business activities and property portfolio. In doing so, we will be establishing the carbon baseline for 2018 and reduction requirements to hit their 2030 target of 50% reduction and projecting the trajectory and pathway out to 2040 for net zero in line with Science Based Targets.

Energy Monitoring & Targeting

In addition, Greengage are working with Howard de Walden to use the Power BI platform to determine the top 10 highest consuming buildings to establish an ongoing operational energy & monitoring programme. The purpose of this site level engagement is to monitor half hourly energy profiles on Power BI to spot anomalies and areas of high consumption to raise for investigation with the site team. This combined with reviewing building HVAC and energy systems settings and parameters will help to improve day to day efficiency as well as track any investment energy savings.

Laura Jokers, Head of Sustainability at Howard de Walden has stated:

We are excited to be working with Greengage to help use improve our data collection and reporting. We are committed to achieving our net zero and science-based target commitments. Through Greengage’s engagement and support, we plan to use Power BI to provide us with greater visibility of where our emissions sit within our property portfolio. This increased attention, will enable us to make targeted carbon reductions aligned to our carbon and ESG strategy.’
