Elephant and Castle Regeneration

Greengage have been responsible for providing technical support across a range of disciplines at the Elephant and Castle regeneration project in central London. Our ecologists undertook bat surveys prior to demolition and provided advice with respect to protection of ecological receptors and the presence of invasive species. Greengage designed an Ecological Monitoring Scheme for the first phase of the site which was designed to form the basis for monitoring across the wider site as each phase progresses.

The innovative scheme includes a review of ecological enhancement features such as living roofs, public landscaping, and bird and bat boxes. No other long term monitoring schemes for sites of this kind exist and our novel approach therefore stands to provide crucial data on the long term effectiveness of urban Green Infrastructure.
