As a part of Green Sky Thinking week Greengage attended a thought provoking event that considered the growing need for green space to accommodate an ever increasing population.
As population numbers continue to increase, green infrastructure (GI) has a key role to play in city planning and place making.
GI and green spaces play an essential role in creating a sense of identity within an area, and can contribute to the regeneration, restoration and health of an urban environment, whilst enabling and encouraging active lifestyles and healthy living.
Greengage actively support and promote the implementation of GI and green spaces and have authored numerous articles around the subject from an ecological stance and socio-economic and health perspective. In addition to this, our experts have also contributed to UKGBC Green Infrastructure Guidance.
Our team have extensive experience in managing GI throughout all the life stages of development. Through planning and design, our urban ecologists use a wealth of knowledge surrounding the design and implementation of innovative GI solutions for developments across London and the UK, undertaking GI Audits and producing GI Strategies. We work with design teams to provide bespoke GI advice and design that can feed into site wide management plans, address planning conditions or complement CSR targets, building on our understanding of UK wide policy drivers and Local Authority requirements.
Prior to development, and throughout the developments lifespan, our socio-economic assessors are adept in anticipating, measuring and assessing the advantages brought to developments and the wider community as result of the inclusion of GI, such as social inclusion, reduced crime, healthier active lifestyles, and improved environment. These assessments can be stand-alone, or form part of planning documents such as an EIA. They can also be conducted retrospectively upon completion, to consider the social return on the GI investment.
