The next big Carbon Challenge: How to Measure and Reduce Embodied Carbon CPD

Greengage will help project managers, architects, engineers and cost consultants to understand the importance of embodied carbon and how you can deliver buildings with a lower carbon footprint.

The UK Government’s Construction 2025 strategy sets out a strategic vision for the future of the industry. Amongst the key challenges to the industry is the target of a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the built environment. The associated Green Construction Board Low Carbon Route Map for the Built Environment shows that in the next few years the industry will have to move to understanding and reducing the embodied carbon of developments.

In a climate of ever changing energy policy, the importance of embodied carbon in the UK meeting its mandatory 80% carbon reduction target is increasing. Planning authorities are looking towards developments to demonstrate how embodied carbon has been considered and reduced through innovation in design and construction techniques. In addition clients are also setting their own targets on the measurement and reduction of embodied carbon.

OUR CPD

Our experienced team will set out the best practice measurement techniques used in the industry, and help to identify the key areas of impact in materials selection and design techniques. You will learn what information is required from the project team and at what stage, in order to make the most effective decisions.

Some techniques will be explored that you can apply throughout the project life cycle that will effectively and efficiently reduce embodied carbon. We will look at the role that specification and procurement play in ensuring that what is designed is implemented, at no detriment to the cost or programme.

Be aware of the challenges and opportunities ahead. This CPD can be undertaken at your place of work, at a time that best suits your team to ensure maximum value. Please contact Chris Burgess 0203 078 9734 for more information.
