Last week was Green Sky Thinking Week 2018, an annual event organised by Open City to spread best practice for sustainability in the built environment.
This year’s theme was ‘People First’, with a task of exploring sustainable design from the human perspective. This seemed a great opportunity to talk about Clapham Park, a major regeneration project that has been designed with people in mind.
From the outset of the Clapham Park project, the design team were challenged to not only design better, more sustainable buildings but to also maximise the spaces between the buildings and how these would encourage people to move and interact across the wider site.
The design of these spaces included multiple elements that encourage:
– An active lifestyle;
– Help improve the health and wellbeing of the user; and
– Assist in creating a community at Clapham Park.
A key part of our Green Sky Thinking event, ‘Putting people at the centre of urban regeneration: lessons from Clapham Park‘, we produced a video that presents the ‘day in the life’ of three individuals and their experience of the scheme and how we see the design principles impacting and improving their lives.
