Greengage were appointed to advise on a range of technical issues for the creation of a sustainable residential community in an area formerly used for gravel extraction and subsequent landfilling. The sustainability strategy included the creation of a nature reserve and wetland area to seek an increase in biodiversity value and to act as an area for water inundation during periods of flooding. This included areas for bats, water voles and otters as well as a range of floral species as part of the overall design.
Greengage also provided technical advice on the delivery of a carbon neutral scheme, renewable energy and the overall assessment of the implications for local schools, doctor surgeries and other community features.
