The remains of the 12th Century scheduled monument Saffron Walden Castle sit in the centre of the small town of Saffron Walden, Essex. Greengage provided ecological advice and support identifying the need for bat emergence and activity surveys to inform initial conservation works.
Further to these surveys, Greengage undertook a general ecological appraisal of the site to inform our input for the site Conservation Management Plan produced in support of HLF funding. We designed ecological enhancement features for the site Masterplan to encourage visitors to the site and benefit local ecology, reflecting policy targets. Our enhancements also specifically identified educational opportunities within the proposed design integrating the value added to both the heritage and ecological assets at the site.
