Baseline socio-economic evidence was gathered to understand the initial parameters that exist on the site to inform the development of a masterplan proposal.
Greengage were appointed to consider three aspects with respect to the site: open space, education provision and healthcare provision. Due to the nature of the site and the importance of open space provision within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the assessment focussed on this issue, initially. It considered the projected demand for open space within the Borough as a result of the forecast population growth and then also considered accessibility according to both the London Plan and Urban Design Compendium guidance.
Following the open space assessment both education and healthcare provision were considered with regard to both the surrounding community and also any forthcoming population from development on the site.
The assessment’s output provided early design parameters for the architects to work within to ensure that the initial plan proposals considered relevant future conditions.
