Grain Business Park

A range of environmental and sustainability services were provided by Greengage in support of the Masterplan application to redevelop a 165 hectare brownfield site at the Isle of Grain in Kent.

This included the assessment of the potential for new employment generation on the site during both the construction phase and subsequent operation. Due to the existing activities in close proximity to the site, the Health & Safety Executive’s PADHI (Planning Advice for Developments near Hazardous Installations) restrictions limited the number of employees that could be onsite at any one time and was initially seen to reduce the potential employment benefits.

Greengage were able to identify a more realistic and greater level of employment benefit from the scheme, which reflected the real value of the scheme to the local area. This was done by careful consideration of the shift nature of the employment generation, subsequent indirect secondary employment resulting from suppliers, and application of English Partnerships Additionality Guidance.
