Gallions Quarter

Greengage were commissioned to conduct a socio-economic assessment of the proposed development, and write a socio-economic report to form a chapter of the wider Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for submission to planning.

The proposed development consists of the redevelopment of the Albert Basin area of the Royal Docks in the London Borough of Newham. The development is mixed-tenure, bringing forward residential units for private sale, affordable rent and shared ownership.

The scale of the scheme and the proposed mixed-tenure meant many socio-economic considerations for the local community & wider area. Greengage conducted a thorough National & Local policy review, and established the baseline conditions of the area through a detailed desktop study. Potential impacts to these conditions were assessed, giving consideration to local deprivation, employment generation & the local economy, provision of healthcare & education facilities, demand for housing, community cohesion, access to open space and local crime rates.

To ensure the maximum socio-economic benefits of the scheme and any negative impacts lessened, appropriate enhancement and/or mitigation measures were proposed where necessary, based on the findings of the assessment.
