Greengage undertook an Extended Ecological Phase 1 Habitat Survey as well as Bat Emergence and Activity Surveys for this site in Cheddar, Somerset in support of planning for approximately 70 dwellings and 117 car parking spaces plus associated soft landscaping.
Further to these initial surveys Greengage produced a Biodiversity Enhancement Management Plan and Habitat Carrying Capacity Report which focused upon the ability of the site to support habitat for the nationally rare greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) and recommended appropriate mitigation, enhancement and management techniques to encourage this enigmatic bat species to forage and roost on site, alongside the proposed development.
Throughout the project consultation with Natural England and Sedgemoor District Council was maintained to provide a holistic approach which satisfied all parties.
