Sustainability and Energy support for the proposed Learning and Teaching Centre

Greengage are excited to engage with Brunel University London to provide Sustainability and Energy support for the proposed Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC) on the main University campus in Uxbridge. Proposals involve the demolition of the existing John Crank building to allow for the development of a state of the art LTC building that offers a flexible learning environment for staff and students. The design is being led by architects Penoyre and Prasad and Greengage are working closely with the design team to ensure the building achieves the highest level of sustainable performance.

The building will comply with the London Plan requirements for energy performance and Greengage are working closely with M&E consultant BDP to develop an energy strategy that meets these requirements and exceeds them wherever possible.

As a minimum the building will achieve a BREEAM rating of Excellent, however the development is expected to demonstrate exemplar sustainable performance. The health and wellbeing of building users within an education environment is critical and therefore issues including the promotion of good daylight levels, indoor air quality, thermal comfort and acoustic performance are priority considerations during the concept design phase. It is also important that the building performs as expected by the University. Therefore ensuring that the building can be easily operated, monitored and managed is a key consideration to allow a smooth transition upon occupation of the centre for the start of the teaching year in 2020.
