Greengage carried out an energy audit for Brathay Trust to determine how the organisation can reduce its energy use across its portfolio. Brathay Trust is a charity that predominantly works with young people to deliver integrated community and residential programmes at their training headquarters in Ambleside, Windermere in the Lake District. Their portfolio at Windermere comprises 14 buildings ranging in size, use and age (from the main Georgian Hall to the modern Scandinavian type lodges built in 2009).
Following a site visit and meetings with key personnel and a desktop review of the existing energy data, Greengage identified a number of recommendations for energy efficiency across the portfolio. These included:
- Identification of low cost solutions for different areas of the Trust, in response to the different requirements of its organisation;
- Behavioural change initiatives reflective of different aspects of the organisation (teaching facilities, accommodation, kitchen); and
- Recommendations on process and procedures improvements for energy and general sustainability improvements.
