Greengage are thrilled to announce the Design Stage BREEAM Excellent certification of the Bell Green A3 Retail unit in Sydenham.
The new build is a component of the wider Bell Green Retail Park being developed by The Kier Group. Situated on the former Bell Green Gasworks Site, the new retail park will form an important element of the Sydenham regeneration of works. Once completed, the Bell Green Retail Park will play host to numerous units used for retail, storage, distribution, trade counters and offices. Specifically, the Bell Green A3 Retail Unit will be occupied by McDonalds Restaurants Ltd, and with their rigorous environmental standards they decided to pursue an ‘Excellent’ target for the BREEAM certification.
The development was assessed under BREEAM Retail: 2008 and with the hard work of Kier & Mcdonalds the project achieved an overall score of 70.7%. Their highest category score was an impressive 100% under Management, followed by Waste at 88% and Materials with 77%. A particularly commendable score was the Land use and Ecology category at 70% given that the land of Bell Green Gas Works site was considered to be highly contaminated, and therefore remediation was undertaken before construction began.
Greengage have been privileged to be the assessors throughout the Design Stage, and we will continue to provide support and guidance for the duration of the project until eventually assessing at the Post Construction Review.
Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving the excellent target and planning such a sustainable development. We here at Greengage are looking forward to seeing the project through to its end result.
